Being an autodidact photographer and DOP, Charli Ljung’s approach to photography and filming is based in his ability to find creative solutions and not being afraid to improvise technically. He also does his own editing and grading, which gives him a unique overview and control over the entire process. More specifically, it has taught him to trust his intuition, sensing in which direction the model will move and what needs to happen next in order for the story to evolve: “I taught myself to take photos and this also shows when I am shooting film: I have a particular interest in composition; I strive to ensure that nearly every frame you should be able take out of the film and use it on its own, as an independent photo. I grew up in the countryside and this has made me very aware of the possibilities inherent in natural light – it can be borderline uncanny, at times even bizarre but mostly, there is a certain sense of beauty to this kind of light, which has influenced my visual imagery.”
His portfolio includes a long list of clients he has collaborated with, such as H&M, Eytys, Eton shirts, BON Magazine, Vogue Japan and Purple Magazine. He has also made music videos for artists such as Robyn, Kleerup, Mando Diao and Loreen.
